Do you believe that high-quality teachers are the key to student achievement?  Would you like your teachers to receive cutting-edge, collaborative, standards-based professional development?  If so, then we invite you to participate in a federally funded research project, the E-Learning for Educators Initiative.  This initiative aims to provide effective online professional development that leads to gains in teacher content knowledge, improvements in teaching practices, and increases in student achievement.

Alabama is one of nine states that has the opportunity to participate in this exciting initiative.  Representatives from the Alabama Department of Education and from Alabama Public Television are working together to create effective and sustainable professional development for Alabama.  We invite you to join our efforts and participate in this study.

As part of this initiative, a series of online professional development courses is being offered for elementary school mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA).   These high-quality courses target critical areas in which students tend to struggle, and are based on state and national standards.  By joining in this study, all of your teachers in either 4th grade ELA, 5th grade Math, 7th grade ELA, and 8th grade Math can participate in this focused series of courses.

If you are interested in learning more about this study and the professional development opportunities it provides your teachers, please visit the project website at http://elearning.alsde.edu/ to indicate your interest in the study.  A member of the Technology and Assessment Study Collaborative (inTASC) at Boston College will then contact you to provide more information about the study and to answer any questions you have. You can also visit the TASC FAQ Website for more information.
